DINGHIES REGATTA June 16 & 17, 2018



The Regatta is governed by the following:

  • The rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)
  • The applicable One Design Class Rules
  • This Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions and any Amendments
  • The prescriptions of Sail Canada that will apply (if any) will be posted on the Official Notice Board
  • If there is a conflict between languages, the English text will take precedence


  1. The regatta is open to one-design dinghies as well as 2.4-meter keelboats. In order to compete, sailors must be a minimum of seven years old as of June 16, 2018. This follows recommendations of BC Sailing for BC Circuit events. Classes may include Fireball, 29er, 420, Laser, Radial, 2.4 meter and Optimist. Competitors in the Optimist class are assigned to fleets as follows:

Red – born between 2003 and 2005

Blue – born in 2006 or 2007

White – born between 2008 and 2011, minimum eleven years old

Green – first year of competition or at the discretion of the Optimist coaches.

Participants under the age of 18 must also have the online Waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

  1. Registration may also be made in person at the CFSA Registration Desk on Friday, June 15 from 1730 until 2100 or last-minute on the morning of Saturday June 16 from 0830 to 1030.
  2. Payment can only be made in person at the CFSA Registration Desk on the dates and times stated in 2.3.


  1. Entry fees are $40.00 CAD for Single-handed boats and $60.00 CAD for Double-handed boats.
  2. Fees include Saturday night dinner ticket(s) ~ one (1) for Single-handed and two (2) for Double-handed entries, tax included. Extra dinner tickets are $20 CAD each.
  3. Payment by cash or cheque only. Cheques, payable to the Canadian Forces Sailing Association, should include the Sail number on the Memo line. US currency will be accepted at par.

Prizes will be awarded in the clubhouse approximately one hour after the last boat finishes

  1. Sailors competing in Optimist Green and White Fleets shall be on the water no more than 3.5 hours after the first start of the day. This is in accordance with a directive from BC Sailing.


Sailing Instructions will be available no later than June 15, 2018 on the CFSA website ~ Dinghy Regatta Page Printed copies will be available at CFSA June 15-17, 2018.


Attachment A shows the location of the Regatta Harbour and Venue.

Attachment B shows the location of the racing areas.


Courses will be as defined in the Sailing Instructions.


Competitors shall wear a flotation device at all times while on the water. This changes RRS 40 and the preamble to Part 4. All boats except Optimists must carry a 15m long, minimum 7mm diameter, buoyant towline tied to the mast. All Optimists shall carry an 8m long buoyant line.


  1. Appendix P will apply as changed by NOR 9.2 and 9.3.
  2. For the 29er class, RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns penalty is replaced by the One-Turn penalty.
  3. RRS P2.2 and P2.3 will not apply and RRS P2.1 is changed so that it will apply to all penalties.


  1. The low point scoring system of RRS Appendix A will apply.
  2. One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
  3. a) When fewer than five races have been completed, a boat's series score will be the total of her race scores

b) When five or more races have been completed, a boat's series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score that may be discarded.


Coach and other support boats must be registered, shall carry VHF Radios and display a pennant supplied by the Organizing Committee. Attendance at the Coaches' meetings in the Training Room is mandatory. Failure to comply may result in a team penalty at the discretion of the Jury.


With the exception of safety or reporting retirement from a race, boats shall neither make radio transmissions nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.


Competitors are encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottles. Please help reduce plastic waste.


Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd  and 3rd  place in each division with at least 5 boats. 1st  and 2nd  will be awarded for divisions with fewer than 5 boats. A trophy will be awarded to the overall winner.

Participation recognition awards will be awarded to all competitors in the Optimist Green class.


Competitors participate in the regatta and each race entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.


Each participating boat shall be insured with minimum third-party liability coverage of $300,000 USD for USA and non- Canadian residents and $1,000,000 CAD for Canadian residents.
